The Berkshire Pig Breeders Club needs ALL BREEDERS to be actively involved in the conservation and promotion of Brian's oldest breed of native pig
This is vital to to ensure the number of breeding pigs increases, or at least remains stable
The distribution and diverse gene pool of all bloodlines is crucial, not only in the conservation of Berkshires, but to maintain the breed standard, develop and promote the Berkshire pig as a marketable and viable breed in the marketplace. Equally we need to ensure that breeding pigs and bloodlines are distributed throughout the UK, to protect, as far as possible, the Berkshire Pig from an outbreak of disease ie Swine Fever.
How breeders can make this happen
- Actively support and encourage conservation
- Work to increase bloodline numbers, as identified by the annual breed survey
- Work with the club and breeders across all regions in the UK
- Encourage potential breeders to choose Berkshire pigs
- Join and contribute to the Berkshire Pig Breeders Club initiatives in relation to conservation and promotion of Berkshire pigs
Be a part of promoting Britain's oldest breed of native pig - The Berkshire
YOU can make a Difference - YOUR SUPPORT is Vital
Conservation Membership
Berkshire pigs are recognised as a rare breed, with only 300 breeding sows in the UK, if the number of breeding pigs decreases, there will be a real risk of the breed dying out in the UK.
