Royal County of Berkshire Show My Berkshire pig Truffle (Morebread Louise 33) was
used by the Royal County of Berkshire Show as their face of show
2010. She appeared on all the promotional and marketing material. My
two boys back in December refused to stand with her during the photo
shoot so I borrowed a friend’s 5yo daughter Lara. She had never been
with a big pig before but both models behaved very professionally! Truffle, a past Berkshire Breed champion of the show, is now retired from showing but was asked to attend the show for PR purposes. She had so many visitors. Some people were overheard saying “Is she the famous pig off the radio?” – BBC Berkshire had heavily promoted the show and she had featured throughout! She also appeared on ITV evening news arriving and unloading at the show. The show also asked if William our youngest son would take her in the Young Handlers class again for some PR. He is only 2yrs but had a wonderful time and she behaved extremely well. He was thrilled with his Highly Commended rosette and came out arms up high shouting “ I’m a Winner!” Hopefully this will set the tone for future competitions! It was fantastic to have a Berkshire Pig
representing the premier show in the county. I had lots of enquiries
of where to buy Berkshire pork, how to start showing, and where to
buy piglets. Lots of leaflets were taken from the excellent
Berkshire Pig Club stand and many people took down details for the
website. It was a great show to sign off the major show season and it was a wonderful sight to see so many quality prize winning Berkshires under one tent. Congratulations to all the winners and I hope we can make next year’s show bigger and better. Christina Dunlop
