Berkshires at Bath and West, 2004 Seven exhibits and an entry of 30 pigs promised some stiff competition. On the day the Kilcot pigs impressed judge Mr Chris Penrice and they won the Group class and the first four individual classes. All looked set for a clean sweep for Sharon with only the January gilt class to go. However, Sue Fildes' little gilt attracted the judge's eye, he called her "a pretty little pig" as he inspected her very good underline. She was presented with the first prize, with Kilcot a very close second. Kilcot pigs proceeded to win the Breed Championship, and Reserve, and the pig of the year qualifier. In the Interbreed Supreme Championship, Sharon's sow was Reserve to a magnificent mature Tamworlh sow - bearing several other extremely good breed champions. After these successes drinks were on Sharon! Berkshires made a good show in a hotly contested Interbreed Pairs class, judged by Alan Creedy. From 15 entries, Sue Fildes got third with a nicely matched January pair, Chris & Kevin's pigs from Glebe Farm were fourth. There were two social functions at the show: First was the barbeque on the Wednesday evening at the home/farm of exhibitor Julian Neath & family, who live opposite the show-ground. This is open to all pig exhibitors and this year included a pig roast, a ram roast AND impromptu entertainment to make the 'big birthday' celebration of pig exhibitor Ms Helen Tongue very memorable. The second social function was the free-of-charge stockman's supper complete with singer/comedian in the Farmers' Tavern adjacent to the pig building.
